Weekly Classes

Pregnancy Yoga Classes

It is so important to stay active and healthy during pregnancy, and Pregnancy Yoga is a fantastic way to exercise and is perfectly safe for you and your baby. It is also a wonderful way to take that much needed time out of your busy week to pause, reflect, move, breath & body with your baby.

Classes will include gentle movements, breathwork & relaxation to support the great physical & emotional demands of pregnancy. Move and strengthen your ever-adapting body as baby grows and in preparation for labour. As a Women’s Health Physiotherapist Ruth will be able to help you learn how to look after your pelvic floor pre & post-natally.

My class is suitable for all fitness levels and no experience of yoga is necessary. You can join anytime following your 12 week scan.

Research suggests that pregnancy yoga can offer the following benefits:

  • Improves sleep
  • Reduces stress & anxiety
  • Increases strength, flexibility & endurance of muscles needed for childbirth
  • Decreases lower back pain, headaches, nausea & shortness of breath

Mum & Baby Yoga Classes

Having a baby is life changing! Community and support is everything in the first few months and attending a mum and baby yoga class is a great way for you to meet other new parents in your area. It is also a lovely opportunity for you to spend quality time with your baby.

Led by a Women’s Health Physiotherapist, classes include post natal yoga and professional advice for mums to rediscover, strengthen and support their post-natal body. As new mum’s we don’t always know what is ‘normal’ with regard to post natal recovery, so it is so important to get some advice and guidance – Ruth is happy to chat in or out of class if you have any questions or concerns.

Classes are baby led – feel free to feed/cuddle your baby and move when you can! There’ll also be lots of interaction with baby – songs, sensory play & baby massage.

Classes are suitable once you and your baby have had your 6-8 week check up.

Pilates

Pilates is a fantastic way to improve your body’s performance, get stronger, more flexible and have fun while exercising.

Joseph Pilates developed this movement system originally for Ballet dancers to help them build strength, particularly working on improving the core muscle system. His exercises however were quite challenging and can sometimes place quite a lot of strain on the spine and surrounding muscles. Although all Pilates classes are based on Joseph’s original exercise programme many of the exercises have been adapted in recent years.

Physio-Led Pilates

I have trained with the renowned Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI). The APPI was founded by two Australian Physiotherapists. They combined their Physiotherapy knowledge with Pilates exercises and created safe and effective adaptations of the traditional exercises at various levels so that each exercise can be taught in a way that is suitable for everyone. Read more about the APPI here.

Physiotherapy and Pilates work so well together. My Physiotherapy exercises and knowledge helps create safe exercises for my Pilates students and my Pilates knowledge has really helped me improve my exercise prescription as a Physiotherapist.

It is fantastic to be able to offer my Physiotherapy Client’s ongoing support by continuing their rehabilitation within my Pilates classes.

"Couldn’t recommend more highly! Wonderful pregnancy pilates class with the benefit of being taught by someone who’s a pilates teacher AND a physio with a specialism in women’s health. Just wish I’d come across Ruth’s classes earlier on in pregnancy! Made such a difference in getting rid of lots of pregnancy aches and pains as well as making me feel more confident, calm and strong - and more connected to my body and trusting it to give birth. Ruth amazingly tailored classes to address what was going on for our bodies in our specific pregnancies and also would offer to take questions after class…giving advice and exercises to do at home to address problems. Thanks Ruth!"

"Attended the mummy baby yoga classes and they were fantastic! Such a welcoming group, the yoga was perfect to destress and relax. Only wish I started going sooner!"

"I've been doing Ruth's pregnancy yoga classes since I was 12 weeks and have found them immensely helpful and enjoyable. Ruth is extremely informative about pelvic health and goes out of her way to share information and speak to people individually, you really feel like you have the benefits of your own private physio! I'm so glad I found these classes and have made more soon-to-be-mum friends through them than NCT."

"Ruth has been teaching me Pilates in a small group for around a year. She is gentle and caring and her expertise has meant that despite my serious medical conditions, I have grown stronger and fitter. I can highly recommend Ruth as both a Physiotherapist and Pilates teacher."
