Menopause MOT

The Menopause MOT is suitable for anyone experiencing menopause symptoms

During your initial consultation we will have a thorough chat about your medical history (including HRT), menstrual history, menopause symptoms, goals, lifestyle factors such as sleep, nutrition, hydration and exercise/activity levels.

The assessment will include assessment of your breathing, posture and functional movement and strength. An optional vaginal examination will also be offered to assess the function of your pelvic floor muscles, general health of your vulva tissues and any signs of pelvic organ prolapse.

You will be given lots of advice, education and guidance about how to improve your symptoms and why they might be happening. And exercises to improve your pelvic, brain, muscle and bone health to help you to thrive in this important time in your life.

There are many symptoms of menopause – it can be interesting to look at a symptom checklist such as this one to note if your symptoms could be related to changes due to perimenopause / menopause.

Pelvic Health Physiotherapy can help symptoms related to perimenopause and post menopause including:

  • Genitourinary syndrome of menopause – symptoms affecting the vulva, vagina and lower urinary tract due to low oestrogen levels, such as vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, urinary issues
  • Musculoskeletal issues – muscle or joint aches and pains, changes in strength and mobility
  • Bladder and bowel issues
  • Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Calm, reassuring, knowledgeable treatment that really helped me. I’m writing this review a few months after seeing Ruth and I am still using her advice and feeling stronger every day. Women often belittle their own feelings and symptoms around their ‘inner workings’ as if there’s certain things we just have to put up with as women (and yes I’m talking about bladder problems and prolapse and all of those joyful things!). But we deserve knowledge and help and support - I found this money very well spent, and it’s been really valuable.

Ruth is a great combination of information giver, counsellor and practical help, which is all done with great empathy and patience. She took the time to understand my particular problem, explained things to me in simple terms and gave me straightforward exercises to follow to improve my pelvic floor health, adjusting them at each session to move things forward. I have now reached a point where I feel nearly "normal" again. One of the most difficult things when you experience a prolapse is not being able to talk to someone that knows a lot about it or even find good information online, despite it being an extremely common issue for women. Ruth has been the person to give me that information and help me come to terms with my new normal so that I can now move on with my life and not feel upset and confused by the condition. I'm so pleased and thankful that I went to see her.
