What is The Mummy MOT® postnatal check?
The Mummy MOT is a thorough assessment of your breathing, posture, pelvic floor muscles, abdominal muscles and functional movement to check how your body is recovering after the physical strain of pregnancy and childbirth.
It is recommended that women have an initial assessment at 6-8 weeks postnatal, but we also treat women who gave birth years ago that may still have a tummy gap or related pelvic floor issues.
Your whole core system will be checked including diaphragm, core abdominal muscles and pelvic floor muscles (including an internal vaginal examination – this isn’t essential but is recommended for a thorough assessment). Your perineal or C-section scars will also be examined if applicable.
Mums need to bend, squat and lift many times each day, so you will be provided you with gentle functional exercises and treatment to help with your recovery, to allow you to return to exercise safely and to cope with the everyday demands of being a mum!
